Ok, just to clarify:
1. you had a blog in wordpress.com
2. you bought domain name http://www.dangerdanger.org and pointed it to your blog at tootoobeepbeep.wp.com
3. you bought server space at hostmonster.com
4. installed wordpress SOMEWHERE in hostmonster???? — you got to find out where it is (in root or subdirectory or subdomain) before you can proceed. Have you read the WordPress Lessons?
It’s in the root folder.
I’ve read through all the lessons and everything I could find on the subject, made me more confused.
All what you wrote is correct and I’m totally blanked out, I have no idea how to move on now.
do you mean import posts and add themes
OK. to continue ….
4. installed WordPress in root
5. Go back to WordPress.com – Admin > Manage > Export XML All Authors and save to hard drive (note how many posts and pages you have)
6. Check size of XML, after 1 year of blogging, depending on frequency of post, size can range from 2MB to 30MB or so. Please note most servers limit 2MB max_file_upload. Contact webhost to increase max_file_upload to be able to upload your exported XML content to your new WP
7. Log in to your new WordPress install – Admin > Manage > Import – WordPress and start uploaded. Check to import media attachments as well. Don’t worry if you can’t import all posts/pages/media in one run. If it stops importing, go through import again till number posts and pages you have matches number in old blog at wp.com
8. http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/WordPress_Lessons
Learn about themes, plugins, template files etc
Yeah, okey. But how do I build the site before publishing it? + how do I access the new site when the domain is pointed towards the old wordpress.com site?
– you will find your account nameservers and IP addresses needed by domain registrar from your hostmonster.com account control panel. If you don’t know where or what it as, ask tech support of your webhost
– go to your domain registrar and change the nameservers (plus IP addresses if needed). Different registrars have different navigation structures to the page where you can input the info, if you don’t know how to do this, ask tech support of your registrar.
Okey, this far I’m following you. Let’s see how it goes.
Okey, I’ve done that now. It takes some hourse before it activates.
Okey, I got it. Thank you a millions, very helpful!!! π
