ww.wp.xz.cn new search system

    Hi there, i saw that the search system on ww.wp.xz.cn had changed recently and i was wondering why? This new system is in my opinion not as usefull as the other one.

    First, the option to search between the different areas of the site is gone (codex, forum…). This is a huge drawback for developers, now we gotta struggle through the results from different areas of the site to get what we’d need instead of specifying ‘codex’ for example.

    Second, this google based search is pretty annoying by opening the result in another page (not even talking about the ads so well integrated with the search results…).

    Now i can understand that you guys need to earn money to host all ww.wp.xz.cn and its traffic and that this might help.

    I didnt find any ‘ww.wp.xz.cn’ related topic on the forum so if i’m wrong please correct/move this topic.

    I’d be glad to read users’ reactions as well as admin(s)’ over this.

    There were severe and sudden issues with the old search (which used Yahoo) – so the change over had to be made very quickly.

    now we gotta struggle through the results from different areas of the site to get what we’d need instead of specifying ‘codex’ for example.

    Now i can understand that you guys need to earn money to host all ww.wp.xz.cn and its traffic and that this might help.

    The change over was not made to create any kind of revenue stream. The ads are just part of the basic custom Google search.

    Humm, just did a search with this page for ‘wp_get_archives’ with the codex box ticked and here’s what i got, no result. Is that normal?

    Yes, because it’s an older version of MediaWiki running the codex that doesn’t quite search sub-pages as well as it could :/
