What flavor of Markdown does the WordPress plugin repository use to parse Readme files?

I’m almost certain this isn’t the best place to ask this question, but I cannot find any information anywhere. The only documentation I can find at all concerning the Readme files is, in fact, just an example Readme file.

It is all pretty standard Markdown except for the section headings, which are more like wiki markup.

I would like to be able to parse these files my self, so I was just curious how it all gets put together on the backend.
