WordPress/plugin updates hanging

    Hi! I’ve encountered this particular problem before, and was advised to perform a manual update of WordPress. This ‘sort of’ resolved the issue at the time – after this it seemed to eventually correct itself on its own.

    I’m now encountering the problem on a different site. WordPress version updates and plugin updates theoretically work fine – but the update page itself doesn’t properly complete, instead hanging at the ‘Updating…’ message. However, when I open the site in a new tab, it is not in maintenance mode, and updates seem to have processed as expected.

    I have once again just performed a manual update, but am still having the issue. Any suggestions for possible causes would be very much appreciated!

    Hi there @rebeccayoung

    That is weird.

    Does it happen on different browsers? Different operating systems? I’m just sort of spit-balling things right now since that is what came to mind first.

    Is is on any plugin update or just specific ones?

    Hi Jose, thank you so much for your reply. Unfortunately I don’t have another operating system to test it on, but have just attempted the WordPress 4.8 update in Firefox (I usually use Chrome) and am still having issues. This time the update page hangs on ‘Unpacking the update’, and the site is in maintenance mode (I’ll now remove the .maintenance file via FTP, of course).

    The issue seems to affect all plugin updates.

    Ah, interesting that it is plugins.

    It could very well be the host. Are you able to create a random test site?
