Is it possible to have this as an alert. Like a reminder that it is coming up soon, maybe in the form of an email or an alert on the intranet?

It’s not in the current roadmap, but I can add it to the list of possible features. This gets reviewed periodically and we do add suggestions from users regularly – but I cannot promise anything or give a timescale.
