I use this plugin on a lot of sites that are all on 4.5.3 and most are fine, but there have been a few anomalies where backups hang even if they’re really small and logically shouldn’t time out, or manual backups just don’t do anything like what you describe.
In most cases, what has fixed it for me is completely removing the plugin and then reinstalling it. After doing this I only have one site (out of a handful having this issue) that is still giving me headaches so I believe that one has a separate issue going on, and reinstalling the plugin should work in most cases.

Thanks for the input. I did try re-installing the plugin, but it still does the same thing. I get the animated spinning wheel and then a checkmark. But, no backup file is created, and no errors are provided.
The backup folder, however, is created. I can only assume something is failing. Our file backup size is usually under 35MB, so we really shouldn’t be running into capacity issues.
Also, an older version of the plugin is still working fine for an older version of WP on production site.
Have noticed other users experiencing something similar recently in the forum too.

I figured it out! Was trying to use it on a non-production site which had restricted IP access. Once I allowed the IP address of our server to access…itself (!), it worked.
