Works with any FB plugin?
-
Hello,
Does it work with any of the 2 FB plugins available out there (FD Feedburner or RS Feedburner)?
Thanks!

Hey John! I don’t currently use Feedburner, so you’ll want to double check, but I set up a new FB feed, installed both plugins (not at the same time), and the FB feed output looks correct.
I skimmed the code for both of the plugins you mentioned, and it looks like they both hand off the finished feed to Feedburner, and don’t touch the content. My plugin modifies the content within the feed. So as I understand it, it looks like my plugin is doing its thing at a different point in the feed process than either of those. There are no obvious conflicts, at least.
Side note: After I checked the feed, I turned on the Alternate Feed and rechecked the main feed. In Feedburner, it’s still showing the modified feed, which it shouldn’t be, but that may be a FB caching issue. Am leaving FD Feedburner activated to keep an eye on it.
Hope that helps!
John, just an update on the Alternate Feed and those plugins. If you opt to use the Alternate Feed, it looks like you will need to make sure that Feedburner is watching the newly created feed, not the main site feed. The new feed is not redirected to Feedburner.
The feed output still looks correct (with the Alternate Feed ON, the main feed is unedited, except for galleries, which are always set to send the full size images).
Hello Robin,
Thanks a lot for doing those tests!
I use FB only at 2 sites, just for sending posts by email. In one of them, posts have only picture content (and no text except the tile) that are inserted in full size into the post and re-sized according to the screen by my (responsive) theme. My problem is that the emails are using the original full sized picture and they are too big for a pleasant reading.
I just need a plugin that re-sizes them when FB is sending them by email and yours seems to be doing this job, as well as another one that also seems to be doing the same job – but in a different way.
Frankly, I don’t even know whether I actually need any of those other 2 FB plugins I mentioned. I just installed each one of them at each website but I really wonder whether FB really needs them. And I don’t even understand what the differences are between them.
Anyhow… I will now test your plugin with its default settings on the site that is running the plugin called “RS Feedburner” and will wait to see what happens when FB will send the test email later today.
I will then get back to you with results.
Thanks again!
John, it sounds as though you are exactly the kind of person I had in mind to use this plugin! Part of bringing it to ww.wp.xz.cn was because I had a client who sends a weekly email with a photo, via an RSS feed on his site, but he uploads a pretty large version of each image.
Just a note: any images uploaded before you activate this plugin will not have an email size version created automatically–only images uploaded while the plugin is active. So if you publish a post and then activate the plugin, it will do its best to resize it for emails, but some clients will ignore it. Images uploaded while the plugin is active will have the email size version sent to the RSS feed.
Thanks for keeping me posted on how it works for you–I appreciate it!
My first test didn’t work – no image displaying at all – but this is probably due to the fact that I had the option “Summary Burner” activated in FB and this was set to only email the first 600 words. As there were no words at all in my test post probably the image was also discarded.
I now de-activated this option and will wait for the next round…
Right, Send Images to RSS is for full content feeds, not excerpts or summaries–those are text only by default.
yep, works fine now.
many thanks!
