WP 3.7- Plugin Breaks Page

Hi everyone,

Just downloaded this plugin for a site that I’m building- I am using the dashboard widgets menu to place the tag cloud into the sidebar for a page.

As soon as it is added into the sidebar, before or after changing the default settings, the entire page breaks from that point on. This means the rest of the sidebar as well as the footer all implode and fail to generate on the page. The only other widget in the sidebar is the basic WP Archives widget, and removing that did nothing; I even removed the contact section in the sidebar that I wrote in in almost pure HTML so that the plugin was the only thing in the sidebar, but the result is the same.

I haven’t seen any mention of this on the plugin’s forum, so I’m not really sure which direction to go. Since the 3.7 update for WP came out not long ago I’m assuming this update broke the plugin, unless there is already a solution out there.

Hi Ryan

I haven’t heard any other issues with the markup in the plugin. Could it be something with your theme or theme location?

Which theme are you using? If you’re a developer, please provide the options for register_sidebar() for your theme. I think the markup problem might be there.

The reason why my plugin breaks and the other doesn’t might be that the other plugin doesn’t use the markup from the sidebar definition.

Hi Rickard,

I have actually gotten around this issue and have finished this project by leveraging the built-in WP Tag Cloud, but I can try to isolate the problem for anyone who has this problem in the future.

My sidebar is created via the following code in my sidebar file:

dynamic_sidebar('blog');

You mentioned register_sidebar(), which I haven’t used before. I’m assuming the plugin doesn’t work with dynamic_sidebar()?

No, the plugin is designed to work with dynamic_sidebar() – that’s where the widget should be used.

register_sidebar() is where the sidebar is defined, so there should be a call to that function for the sidebar called 'blog' somewhere in your code.

But if it works with the regular tag cloud but not mine, it seems like there might be some issue.

I’d be very interested in more feedback in being able to isolate the problem.
