WP adding -2 to permalinks

    I built a site for a client and she is now in the process of updating content on the pages.

    She told me that the permalinks are changing to “pagename-2”

    I logged in to take a look and there are no pages in the trash.

    I tried to fix by deleting the page, emptying trash, then recreating page and it still adds the -2 to the permalink.

    – You cannot have a duplicate post slug. The slugs must be unique.
    Since you already have http://www.example/pagename, another page with the same slug automatically gets “-2”.

    Try editing the slug manually to something else (that is not used in any other post).

    – Also try emptying your Trash in case the original post with that slug is still sitting in there

    Thanks for your input, but as stated in my original post there are no duplicate pages or any pages in the trash.
