    You can find the removal steps here (Sticky Topic listed first at the top of the BPS plugin Support Forum): https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/setup-stepstroubleshooting-stepsremoval-stepsrequirementscompatibility?replies=1

    htaccess Core htaccess Files removal steps:
    1. Select the Deactivate Root Folder BulletProof Mode (Default Mode) Radio button on the Security Modes page.
    2. Select the Deactivate wp-admin Folder BulletProof Mode Radio button on the Security Modes page.
    3. Deactivate and delete the BPS plugin on the WordPress Plugins page.
    4. Go to WordPress Settings >>> Permalinks and resave your Permalink Settings.

    Forgot to include the help info if you are unable to login to the site:

    htaccess file troubleshooting steps: Unable to login into your website:
    1. Use FTP or your Web Host Control Panel File Manager and delete the .htaccess file in your website root folder and the .htaccess file in your wp-admin folder.
    2. Log into your website, click the BPS AutoMagic Buttons and Activate all BulletProof Modes. Or if you are removing BPS do steps 3 and 4 under BPS removal steps.

    Thank you for the recommendation.

    About logging into the site:
    I was able to go in and delete the .htaccess file in the website root folder, however when I look for the .htaccess file in the wp-admin folder, it is nowhere to be found. Could it be located somewhere else? Seems like there are a number of .htaccess files in the wp-content/plugins folder, for example: bulletproof-security/admin/htaccess/.htaccess
    I don’t want to start deleting things without confirmation.

    Still unable to access my site. Just a white screen.

    I had also installed Wordfence prior to all of this. Not sure if this is related, but thought I’d mention it.

    BPS only creates 2 .htaccess files when you activate each BulletProof Mode: a website root htaccess file when root folder BulletProof Mode is activated and a wp-admin .htaccess file when wp-admin folder BulletProof is activated. Since you did not activate wp-admin folder BulletProof Mode then you will not see/find a wp-admin .htaccess file. The htaccess files in this folder: /bulletproof-security/admin/htaccess/ are Master .htaccess files that are not in use. They are basically template Master files waiting to be used at some point and are doing nothing when they are in that folder.

    Do this troubleshooting step:
    1. Rename your /wp-content/plugins/ folder to /_plugins/
    Is the problem still occurring now?

    Yes, it appears to not have helped.

    Just to be clear, I renamed the folder to /wp-content/_plugins

    My site is still a blank white screen.

    Ok now do these troubleshooting steps:
    1. Download your wp-config.php file.
    2. Open your wp-config.php file with a code editor application (Dreamweaver, etc) or Notepad or Notepad++
    Do you see any code in your wp-config.php file that is doing anything with cache? You might see something like Define Cache or something similar to that. If you are not familiar with what should be in a standard wp-config.php file then you can open this file: wp-config-sample.php and compare your wp-config.php file code to the WordPress standard code in the wp-config-sample.php file. If you see anything that is different then post it in your forum reply here. DO NOT POST YOUR DATABASE INFO: username, password, etc.

    Also make sure that at the very top of your wp-config.php file there are no blank spaces or anything at all above this below. The wp-config.php file MUST start with this and CANNOT have anything else above this code below:

    <?php
    /**
     * The base configurations of the WordPress.

    I will try that tonight or tomorrow. Running to catch a flight right now. Thanks for your help.

    This problem does not appear to be related to the BPS plugin since BPS removal steps were done and the problem was still occurring. We can still assist you to figure out what is causing the problem when you reply again in this forum thread. This thread has been resolved, but we still receive email notifications when threads have been resolved.
