Hi

We have an issue using Worfence and we cannot login to our site using WP-Admin. Everytime we try and logi, we see Error 403 Forbidden You don’t have permission to access /wp-admin on this server.

We have renamed the folder and it makes no difference. I made changes on the 14/12 and everything was working fine. I have the WordPress activity file that I can send.

We have two sites with the same issue?

I spoke with our ISP and they told us below.

From what I can gather, the wordfence WAF plugin is causing this by disabling access to wp-admin.

If you try to access: lto-tape.co.uk/wp-login.php – the file works, however the backend login appears broken, outputting the following error:
lto-tape.co.uk [Mon Dec 18 17:53:47 2017] [error] [client 213.91.139.74:41576] AH01797: client denied by server configuration: /home/sites/lto-tape.co.uk/public_html/wp-admin/load-styles.php

And the server log outputs: data-storage.co.uk [Mon Dec 18 17:48:51 2017] [error] [client 213.91.139.74:47608] AH01797: client denied by server configuration: /home/sites/data-storage.co.uk/public_html/wp-admin

I tried altering htaccess and setting it as default but it didn’t affect the error. I see no permission conflicts, nor ownership issues on the shared server regarding your site (if they were your site would be entirely offline)

I’d suggest inspecting your database for entries that the WAF wordfence plugin may have created that cause this.

Please advise what I can do?

Hi,
Sorry for my late reply, the “403 forbidden message” isn’t a Wordfence related message, when the request is blocked by Wordfence you see a clear message saying that Wordfence blocked your request along with the reason behind that.

As far as I know this issue should be narrowed down with three things:
– Your user privileges on the server. (double check that with your hosting provider)
– “.htaccess” file. (you can revert it to its default contents using this reference)
– Disable your plugins. (by renaming the plugins folder via FTP)
