Did you deactivate all plugins before upgrading? When you say that you reverted to a backup on your server, was this just a database backup? Or did you downgrade to 2.7?
It was just a database backup. I’m able to get back to my dashboard now and am going to try upgrading again, but will deactivate all my plugins before installing this time. Is there anything else I need to do beforehand?
Not if you have a recent backup and haven’t customised the default theme. Your problem last time was almost certainly an incompatible plugin, so be very careful when re-activating your plugins post-upgrade. Reactivate them one by one and be prepared for problems at some point. When that does happen, you should know which plugin is at fault (the last one activated), so if you can’t access the Admin area, FTP into wp-content/plugins and rename (or delete) that plugin folder. That should remove the problem and give you access again.
Thanks a lot. I do have a customized theme template for my blog. Do I need to deactivate that as well?
It might be an idea to switch to the default theme during the upgrade just in case there’s a problem with your current theme.
Fixed! Thanks a lot for your help. No issues with the custom template it turns out. The problem was with the Google analytics plug-in.
