    I was testing out how to configure the plugin. I had the WP dashboard open and logged in on Firefox. In Chrome I brought up a post and via the Subscribe2 widget and entered an email address to subscribe, and hit enter.

    I went back into Firefox and to the plugin’s settings, saw that my email address had been received – and then, without doing anything, the WP dashboard logged me out and asked me to login again. I tried to login 3 times but each time it failed.

    After trying various things I logged into PHPMyAdmin and discovered that the admin user record (wp-admin) had been deleted from the database wp_users table. This was the only admin user. All attempts to create a new admin user direct via PHPMyAdmin fail. I have tried adding new users and altering existing records to try and get admin access. I get “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page” on each login attempt. I am now locked out of my website.

    The email address I entered via the widget to subscribe just happened to be the email address of the admin user. The fact that WP logged me out within seconds of Subscribe2 getting the subscription request seems too much of a coincidence to me.

    Any thoughts?

  • @zimbo000,

    There is only one place in Subscribe2 that user account can be deleted and it isn’t via the Subscription form. If you entered the email of an existing registered account then you should have been told via the plugin to log in and it should not have been added at all. I think something very strange is happening on your site.

    I agree it’s strange but is seems too incidental to me.

    “…then you should have been told via the plugin to log in” – you mean when I used Chrome to subscribe it should have refused? I don’t recall it did.

    “…and it should not have been added at all” – but as I said, it did add it because when I switched back to Firefox I saw the email address in the settings panel. It was then that the Firefox session just ended and asked me to login.

    Luckily – apart from losing 3 hours trying to sort this out – I tried this on the dev server, not the live site. Have you tried doing what I did? I’ll help if there’s a problem, I just note you say “should” in terms of what the plugin should do, rather than “won’t”.

    @zimbo000,

    I tend to never use categoric language like “won’t” and “can’t” as I have been wrong in the past! 🙂

    I have just tried this on one of my live sites. Email address that is already registered seen in admin (in Safari). In another browser (Firefox) I tried to subscribe that email and I got a message asking me to log in.

    @zimbo000,

    Your issue may be linked to this bug on reflection, if you deleted the user from the Registered Subscribers tab:

    Can’t say for certain, I was trying various things to figure out how to use/configure the plugin: do I need to do anything about that bug, e.g. have you got a new software version I should be using?

    @zimbo000,

    No new version yet, I may release a fix in the next week or so.
