wp-content folders

I just downloaded WordPress 4.7 so have a completely clean version.

I transferred it by ftp to my host but when I went to transfer the content (held on a different machine) realised the wp-content folder only contains two folders ‘plugins’ and ‘themes’ plus an index file – there is no ‘uploads’ folder. It was not created when I downloaded WordPress.

Can I just create one or is there content in this folder that I will need.

Hope this question makes sense….
