• Greetings,
I am getting a very odd display of my dashboard. See screensnap here.

The site seems to be working fine, but as of a couple days ago, we’re unable to update it. We can see our tools, but nothing else works when we click on the menu on the left.

I’ve attempted to disable plug-ins, but that didn’t help. I’ve added memory to wp.config file and that hasn’t worked either. We’re using the Mistylook theme and I believe it’s WP 3.3.1 version.

Try manually resetting your plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

Once you find the cause, don’t re-enable it, and instead upgrade to WordPress 3.9.1 as you’re missing several critical security and compatibility fixes.

Thanks James. I tried both of those suggestions, but still can’t get the Dashboard to show up. When I disabled the theme, the whole site disappeared. I’m at a loss.

Hm, ok then. Time for a forced upgrade. 🙂

Leave the plugins disabled, and try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

Once you revisit the site, you’ll be asked to upgrade the database.
