    A few days ago I installed WP Hashcash on a client’s blog. Today I noticed that a spam comment that was posted by a bot made it through. Everything looked exactly the same as before except that this:

    [WORDPRESS HASHCASH] The poster sent us ‘0 which is not a hashcash value.

    was added to the bottom of the post. I do not see any options to “put the comment into moderation (default), put the comment in the akismet queue, or delete it” per the documentation. So, it seems like I’m doing something wrong.

    Does Akismet have to be active in order for WP Hashcash to work? So far I do not see the benefit of using WP Hashcash.

    I don’t know about that plugin, but, wouldn’t you like to have Akismet active also, anyway, since it catches most spams?

    Yeah, I guess I’ll do that, but then I don’t know what WP Hashcash is supposed to do that Akismet doesn’t, so maybe I’ll get rid of it.

    p.s. The install notes say “visit Options, WP Hashcash from the admin panel to configure options”. Where is this “options” link in the admin panel supposed to be? I have yet to find any place where options for this plugin can be configured. I guess I’m going to have to try to contact the author.

    Older WP versions > Options.
    Newer WP versions > Settings.

    Akismet is a standby for spam control these days. Most blogs don’t need anything else for comments spam, just Akismet alone. If you use Akismet and still get spams, then try looking at other plugins / methods.

    Thanks Moshu. I did find the configuration settings.

    Seems like the thing to do is to set it to delete. Otherwise I don’t see what this plugin does that Akismet alone would not have done.

    I have the same problem.

    I must to approve their own posts in the admin panel.
    How do I get rid of this?
