• Quickies:
    GoDaddy
    Windows XP
    database name: mydatabasename
    username: myusername (I have left it the same as the database name)
    password: mypassword
    database host: localhost (I tried changing it as described in one of the help sections on this site that said what I could try if I was with GoDaddy, but that didn’t work either.

    So, good day.

    Please bare with me. I am not bad with computers, but for some reason I just can’t get this install to work. Here is the error I get, and steps I took to get to where I am at currently:

    ‘Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress’, when I type http://www.mywebaddress/directorya/blog/wp-admin/install.php.

    I use GoDaddy, I installed PHP and MySQL on the GoDaddy site, and uploaded all files. I have tried on a couple of occasions to modify the config file myself, but I get the error above when I try to do that, or the following when I run the install.php and follow the steps to fill in my username and such:

    ‘Error establishing a database connection

    This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

    If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.’

    Am I suppose to do something with the mysql database that is on GoDaddy? It has zero tables and I know nothing about MySQL. Unfortunately I only know MSAccess.

    Do I need to have any software locally like Front page? I only have Dreamweaver locally?

    Thanks for your help. Sorry for the length.

  • Assuming you are have a Linux hosting account or a WordPress type account at GoDaddy, then make sure you are using the correct value for DB_HOST (at Godaddy it is probably NOT localhost)

    Thanks for the quick reply, Michael.

    GoDaddy does have a WordPress install feature built in, but I get this error:

    Your installation of WordPress cannot be completed due to the following reasons:

    1. This hosting account must not have IIS 6 to use WordPress.
    2. This server needs one of the following to run WordPress:
    * PHP 5.1
    * PHP 4.3

    For one, am I typing all this in write?

    Database Name: george
    User Name: george
    Password: xxxxxxxxxxx
    Database Host: h41mysql52.secureserver.net
    Table Prefix: wp_ (I just left this the way it was)

    Oh, and I am not using Linux. Windows and no idea how I would change it to Linux.

    Talk to Godaddy about upgrading/changing your plan.
