WP on local host

I have installed WAMP server to run Localhost while I set my site.
I d/l most recent v of WP.
crated a data base in phpmyadmin. edited the my-config.php file in the WP folder placed the folder in the wamp www directory.
when I go to localhost, Your Projects, the wordpress folder shows, but when I click on it the install page comes up http 500 error “The website cannot display the page”
did I miss a step some where
