• Is this site legit? I’m Afraid that it’s fake or scam.

    [ Redacted ]

Althouh it’s confirmed you actually get the plugins, but not sure if the plugins are actually distributed in a legit way. Don’t want to but some pirated plugins.

It’s a very new site, not much information on the net AT ALL. Don’t wanna fall for a scam or anything.

    Anyone got some insight?

*Looks. Oh great, another one of THOSE places. Put together by more nameless people trying to get money too.*

tl;dr IMHO Avoid them like a bad infection. They looks attractive but you really don’t want to risk getting and keeping a nasty rash.

Longer version: I’ve redacted the name and URL of that place. This is how those sites work.

    1. Obtain licenses from the places that sell those plugins and themes. I’m making that assumption, they may just be downloading hacked versions.
    2. Offer all of those plugins and themes for a “SALE! SALE! SALE!” discount price. For an annual subscription fee of course. Hey, they’re trying to make money off of other companies work and support.
    3. Offer zero support for your subscription. If you run into problems it’s “you’re on your own and don’t call us, we’ll call you” from them.

With GPL code, anyone can give it away and there is nothing wrong with that. That’s how GPL works.

But they’re not giving it away, they’re charging you money for that code. They’re obtaining the code and reselling it. They profit on the work of others and offer no support.

Oh, and they do not do refunds. You really do not know where they got that code nor do you know how they modified that same code.

Now we all profit from GPL code. GPL code is a gift to users and companies do make money selling their code with a well defined support model. That’s something that this community supports. But companies like that? I won’t call it a scam exactly. But they collect money for code you can get directly from the author’s with support and claim the discount is worth it.

Go straight to the source. Those companies that wrote and support that code are ethical and don’t engage in such practices.

    I suspected something like that.
The main reason I did not go for the buy was that it wasn’t clear who actually gets the money for it. And it felt like a humblebundle rippoff w/o any text of charity or who gets what.

    Thanks for the answer!

    Jan,

Maybe look at the whole “charging for the code” differently?

I could offer you my car FOR FREE, However, I put the key to that car in my basement, I charge you to access my house and basement, thus not charging you for keys or the car directly.

I don’t agree with sites like the one Fredrik mentioned by the way.
