I installed wpforms. I checked by entering one email id. But, that info didn’t appear anywhere in the site. Then I read that I have to isntall Gmail SMTP to rectify this. I installed Gmail SMTP. It didn’t work either. I tried troubleshooting with port 587 (with TLS encryption), 465 (with SSL encryption), 25 with TLS first and then SSL. Nothing worked. Please guide me.

  • Sorry you are having issues. What SMTP plugin are you using? They do not all work as advertised unfortunately.

The one that we highly recommend that works with multiple SMTP platforms (not just gmail) is Postman SMTP. Also, while sending via Google SMTP is more reliable than providing no auth, some configurations still have issue with. Using an email sending service such as Mailgun or Sendgrid works best (Mailgun is free for 10,000 emails a month).

Here is an blog post we wrote on the issue that I think will help πŸ™‚

I am using Gmail SMTP. Did you mean I should not use that. Should I delete that plugin? Which one should I use instead?? Should I use Postman SMTP? or Mailgun? or Sendgrid?

Please check out the link I posted. It covers 3 solid options:

    – MailGun service
    – SendGrid service
    – Google SMTP (via Postman SMTP plugin)

If I ordered from fasted to setup to slowest: Google SMTP, SendGrid, MailGun.

I would recommend trying things in that order. So start with Google SMTP.

Full Google/Postmap SMTP directions are covered here:

First I tried Google SMTP (without Postman), it didn’t work. Then I mailed you. I didn’t want to try Google again as number of emails per month is less.

Then I tried SendGrid on 16/04/16 still it is showing “failed provisioning”. I don’t know why. I didn’t receive any mail from them. I mailed them. No reply.

Then I tried MailGun today i.e. 18/04/16. But in GoDaddy I wasn’t able to add 14400 in TTL field. It was showing 1 hour by default. Is that okay??

And in Mailgun dashboard under Domains under “check DNS records now” it is all showing red. But it should show green as following:

    https://help.mailgun.com/hc/en-us/articles/202453910-How-do-I-know-if-my-DNS-records-are-set-up-correctly-

Should I wait till tomorrow for mailgun to propogate??

Also, in wordpress under settings-mailgun I enterred only API key. Is that enough or do I have to enter any other field??

Please guide me I am weak in technically

    Hi,
Just ignore my previous mail. Now I received mail from SendGrid. My account is provisioned now. I did all other settings.

But in wordpress in authentication method I saw only “API key” there is no http. I use godaddy. I used that it self. and for sending address I used my gamail id.

Is everything okay? I updated settings. And tested by sending a mail. It said “mail wasn’t send” even wpform not working. What could be wrong??

    Hi

I seem to be having the same problem wit wpforms
Ive set up WPMailSMTP from my WordPress dashboard
As well as configured the basic SMPT plugin
The email notifications dont seem to reach my email from the contact forms

Do I have to set up a 3rd party SMTP plugin?
Like Gmail and Mailgun – if I do:
The site is hosted on the Amazon EC2 platform
Should I install SMPT service from them or should I try setting up eg. Mailgun

My site only needs to send notification emails from the site contact form to the email address provided
Ive added the clients email + my own to test and still nothing

Would love some links on how to sort this out

    Thanks a lot guys

    Hey zubairogier,

    Thanks for reaching out!

If you are using Amazon you will need to install an SMTP plugin. We have had other customers also on Amazon and they always have the exact same issues as well.

Thankfully, using an SMTP service/plugin fixes everything.

Mailgun will definitely work, though my personal preference is SendGrid. If you have a Gmail/Google account, you can also use that as well.

Here’s our short write up that can hopefully provide some insight https://wpforms.com/send-emails-wordpress-using-smtp-step-step

    Hope that helps! πŸ™‚
