Hello, thanks for the plugin! I opted to give you the spare commission in the options πŸ™‚

I am having problems. I only want the simple feature of adding a text shortcode and getting an affiliate link that switches between UK and USA depending on the location of the customer. I have set my affiliate ID’s for the United Kingdom and United States and clicked on Localise Amazon Link, the geo database is installed (but hung at end of installation) I get:

Your ip2nation database is up to date. (It was last updated on Sat, 09 Jan 2016 22:12:08, the latest version available is dated: Sat, 25 Jul 2015 19:28:20).

I have set default to UK. When i add the following shortcode using the provided box in the wordpress post page:

    [amazon text=Amazon&asin=B000KW2YEI]

    I get:

and the price is in $.

i am here in the UK, so how come it is not linking to the .CO.UK site and showing up in Β£?

I am currently logged into both USA and UK affiliate accounts, and they both share the same email address to log in with.

Also, how would i test it’s working for the USA, can you recommend a free proxy site that would enable me to test this?

    THANKS!

    Hi,

Sorry due to other commitments I don’t have any time to support the plugin at the moment.

The database install should not hang, however it may take a very long time as it is quite large. You could try downloading and installing the DB manually to see if that solves the problem.

Another thing to try is to visit the host of the database and see if they correctly detect your locale.

The database is from here: http://www.ip2nation.com

For testing how it looks from other locales I use the included ‘spoof locale’ plugin and add argument ?spoof_locale=us to the URL of your site.

Thanks for taking the time to reply when you are not offering official support!

http://www.ip2nation.com detects my location OK. I am currently asking a DB expert friend if he can help check my database install in phpMyAdmin. I am a total newb at that. He will help me reinstall if needed so i can try your suggestion.

I can’t find the spoof locale plugin? I know you are very busy and really appreciate your time, if you could provide a link it would be very helpful. THANKS.

    Hi,

If you have selected developer support then there should be an a menu in the side bar: Amazon Link > Extras

Open this admin page and one of the ‘extras’ that should be listed for installation is amazon extra – spoof locale.

    Hope that helps,

    Paul

It is definitely the ip2nation database not installing causing the problem!

I installed Amazon Link on localhost and database installation does not hang and it works. I tried your ‘amazon extra – spoof locale’ and all is well πŸ™‚ Now I have to ring the hosting company and get things sorted!

FINALLY I cracked it! The ip2nation database would just not install through my hosting. After days of talking to technical support and crashing my entire website, I eventually found the only solution was:

    1. Install the ip2nation database on localhost wordpress
    2. Export the tables from phpMyAdmin
    3. Import into the live database

Hurray!!!!!! Now I actually have to create some content with affiliate links.

I really hope you keep this plugin at least working with new wordpress updates, if it were to break in the future I think I would now have to chop my own head off after putting in all this work πŸ™‚
