    Hi,

For a few years now I am still having trouble getting Google to show text from what I have typed in the SEO settings in wordpress admin in the meta description box.

No matter what I do, it keeps showing text I have in a footer section of my page.

    Please help!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi Jaspear,

There’s nothing technically wrong with the page, but Google ignored your custom description.

    From https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/appearance/snippet#meta-descriptions.:

Google will sometimes use the <meta name="description"> tag from a page to generate a snippet in search results, if we think it gives users a more accurate description than would be possible purely from the on-page content.

Their keywords above were “sometimes” and “if.”

Google probably does not like your phone number in there; phones might generate tel: links automatically when they spot numbers in the text, which deprives accessibility and Google’s intent of the description snippet: inform about the page, not call-to-action (literally in this case).

You can proactively block the footer text by adding a data-nosnippet attribute to the footer wrapper element. To learn more about that, see https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/robots/robots_meta_tag#data-nosnippet-attr. It would be best to ask the theme author to help implement it on your site.
