• So I’m aware this is not at all a new issue, but I’m at a loss how to fix it. My Facebook preview photo is searching through photos found on the widgets section instead of choosing our appropriate website logo.

I am using the most current version of WordPress (at the time I write this, it’s 4.1). My theme is Thesis Theme v2.1. And also, yes, I’m using the WordPress SEO plugin, and I believe (like many others) that it’s something to do with this, or Facebook’s unwillingness to accept the appropriate image, that’s causing my aggravation.

Can anyone that’s gone through this give me a 3rd grade level of what you did in order to fix this problem? Should I copy all of the information in the “Edit Files” section in Notepad, reset to default all my SEO settings, and see if that works and then re-paste in all the code that I’d saved? Will that even work? Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thank you!

  • Hey there,

Sorry to hear this. I had the same issue and I wanted to use my site logo for the Facebook thumbnail for every post that was shared on FB. There are a lot of plugins that will make it easier for Facebook to read featured images on posts but it was hard to find one that made it easy to use the same image for every post regardless.

If that is what you want, which it sounds like it is, then this is the plugin for you. Yes, it says it hasn’t been updated in a very long time but I can assure you its a very simple lightweight plugin that does its simple job well. I still use this:

Hi Mike, I appreciate the heads up, but it doesn’t seem to work. I tried both with and without turning off the “Add Open Graph meta data” SEO Social setting checkbox.

Is there an easy step-by-step of what I need to do to get that plugin to work correctly?

    Thank you!

Sorry to hear that. This particular plugin may not work. hmm I have heard that Yoast SEO plugin has a built in Facebook thumbnail photo solution. That might be worth trying as it also has a bunch other great stuff!

Okay so I have also come across this, and it has also been on WP Engine but I think what you need to do is use the facebook debug tool when this happens, put the permalink into the tool, click the button to fetch existing OG data for that URL. It will grab the info and show you the wrong preview as you expect, then go up and tell it to fetch new data and if you have configured wordpress SEO and using their custom facebook image option it should work.

    Does that help?

Use WordPress SEO the plugin by Yoast and try the above.
