    Had similar challenges this weekend, so am following this post for other suggestions. Eventually uninstalled and reinstalled. BTW, I see that XAMPP “suggests” to download the Bitnami stacked WordPress installation – works pretty well!

    I solved the problem by cleaning the computer I use for creating the site: I removed all programs which might interfere with standard ports (skype, firewalls, antivirus….) and set 80 and 443 as standard ports in Xampp Control Panel (default stting).
    I managed to start Apache and MySQL and everything works just fine by simply accessing localhost.
    Obviously, that’s not the computer I use for browsing or working anymore.
