xmlrpc.php causing long wait times

Hi,
I’m experiencing some long wait times when loading my site. I checked it on Pingdom and it appears to be associated with the xmlrpc.php file. I want to keep the ability to publish remotely so don’t want to disable the option.
Does anyone have any ideas what it could be?
