For the past few weeks we have not always been able to access the Yoast Buttons in our Edit Posts and Pages. We can see the SEO, Readability etc buttons, but they don’t function when we click on them.

Following EVERY single Yoast Update the functionality briefly returns and we’re able to click on the buttons and fill in all the fields to get our green lights.

Then, AFTER a few hours, we’re not able to click the buttons again. This occurs on all our PCs and through range of web browsers.

When the SEO buttons work, the Console shows no errors in the Java Script.

As soon as they stop working we get a syntax error:

Uncaught SyntaxError: Invalid regular expression: /^*-+:*$/: Nothing to repeat

We are running the latest updates on everything.

Is it possible that that there is a plugin conflict somewhere?

    Thanks for any help.

    Hello @azinusagency and @alcensprint,

We are sorry that you are both experiencing a blank or partially loading metabox; thank you for narrowing down the issue to the error 'Uncaught SyntaxError: Invalid regular expression: /^*-+:*$/: Nothing to repeat' that appears in your browser’s console. It’s due to Javascript manipulation by your CDN/WAF. In most cases where we’ve seen this before, it was due to the Imperva CDN. You can learn more about it in this GitHub issue here.

This is not something that we can do anything about, as it is code manipulation that happens between your server and the client browser. We suggest looking into contacting Imperva/ your reseller and perhaps flushing the cache/disabling any functionality that modifies these files. Once this has been addressed, we would expect that the Yoast SEO meta box would then load properly as expected.

Furthermore, our development team cannot fix this issue because we cannot change our JS file extension. So this is up to Imperva to fix. You can exclude the “wordpress-seo” folder in the Imperva firewall or simply disable the Imperva CDN/WAF or contact them to ask them to fix it.

    Hi @azinusagency

If you also have the same error of:

Uncaught SyntaxError: Invalid regular expression: /^*-+:*$/: Nothing to repeat

in your browser’s console, you may also need to reach out to your reseller or web host for assistance on this if it is also confirmed if you are using the Imperva CDN/WAF.

We are going ahead and marking this issue as resolved due to inactivity. If you require any further assistance please create a new issue.
