YoastSEO fields not getting updated
-
Hello,
we have the Easy Language plugin installed and noticed that if the plugin is active the YoastSEO fields aren’t getting updated anymore. E.g. the “Focus Keyphrase”. If we change it and save the post and refresh it’s still the old value. As soon as we deactivate the Easy Language Plugin it works again.
We don’t see any Console errors or logs in the debug file.

Hello,
thanks for the question. Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce the problem in my case.
I have used: WordPress 6.7.1, Easy Language 2.3.2 and Yoast SEO 24.3. I can use all Yoast settings in the Easy Language page without any problems, including this field.
My guess would be that some plugin you are using is also playing a role here. You could deactivate all plugins except Easy Language and Yoast SEO as a test and then check whether it works.
Alternatively, you can also provide me with the website report so that I can see if I can somehow recreate it on that basis. You can find the website report under Tools > Site Health > Info. Just click on the “copy to clipboard” button there and then paste the code block here: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/forum-user-guide/block-editor/#code-block
Hi,
thanks for your response. Sorry for being unspecific. The related fields are on the original post. This post has so far no “Easy Language page/post”.
So if you open a post and scroll to the bottom you see the YoastSeo section. This is where I change the Focus Keyphrase for example and it’s not getting update. I made a small screenrecording: https://cln.sh/BrsCsBS5
I am still unsure what this is about. The video is very fast and unclear, especially at the end – which page is there? The original one or the Plain Language page?
So here’s a guess: is it that you’re changing something on the original page and it’s not affecting the Plain Language page? This is intentional, as both are separate pages. There is no synchronization.
If it is something else, I would need the above information to be able to recreate the case for me.
LIke I mentioned it’s the original post and I haven’t created an easy language post for it. I scroll down to YoastSeo I change the focus phrase from “xyz” to “xyz test”. I save the post. Refresh. Scroll back down and the YoastSeo focus phrase is “xyz” again.
If I disable the Easy Language plugin and I do the same the focus phrase is “xyz test” and updated.
I have now tried this again in several test systems and cannot reproduce it. The Easy Language plugin also does not affect the properties of non-simplified pages. I therefore still don’t see the connection here, but would like to get to the bottom of the problem. It would therefore be great if you could provide the above-mentioned site report, which I can use to adjust my test system more precisely to what you have set up.
And please also try with a different browser. Often browser add-ons have influenced the functionality of the Block Editor – perhaps even if they think they recognize some kind of output by adding the Easy Language plugin in the editor (the box on the right).
Hi, I now have deactivated all plugins expect Easy Language and YoastSeo and installed the WordPress Classic theme. And I still have the issue that I can’t save the focus keyprase. If I disable easy language it’s working.

mu-plugins: writableI tried again today for several hours to recreate the problem in various test systems – without success. I don’t have this problem anywhere. I used the same configuration that I can see in your site info (same PHP version, same theme, same WordPress, also the outdated Yoast version, enabled Debugging ..).
I also went through the source code of the Easy Language Plugin again and checked using with debug output to see if it could have any influence at all. No, it doesn’t. The Easy Language Plugin does not change any original posts and pages. Only those that contain simplified texts.
If you can still not find a solution, I would recommend the following tests:
- Try using a different browser. It’s possible that an add-on from your browser is interfering here.
- Use a different computer. It’s possible that a security tool is interfering here.
- When saving a post/page, take a look at the JavaScript console to see if there are any errors listed there. The JavaScript console is part of every browser. In Chrome you can open it as described here: https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/open – in Firefox: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Learn_web_development/Howto/Tools_and_setup/What_are_browser_developer_tools
- Is anything configured in Yoast? I just activated the plugin and used it straight away to test it without setting anything. You are also welcome to provide the Yoast configuration. You can download it as an export file under Yoast SEO > Tools > Import and Export.
I have also tried it in another environment and it worked for me as well. The only big difference between those two is that the environment I’m having the issue with is a wordpress multisite. So I also tried it in a different multisite and I also have the issue here. So it looks like the issue only occurs on a multisite setup. Could you try to reproduce it on your side as well?

Yes, I was able to reproduce this and have just released a fix for it. Please update to version 2.4.2, then it will also work with Yoast for you. The background is the use of the main database in a multisite installation by our plugin, whereby Yoast expected a different database connection here, which is why the text was not saved by Yoast. Thanks for pointing this out.
Great thank you very much for the quick update. Now it works!
Thank you for your feedback. I’ll mark the topic as solved. Please contact me again if you have any further questions.
