I am using Simply Static on XAMPP and then upload this zip file to a demo server so customers can see a demo of their new website.

The zip file does not extract correctly when uploaded through Cpanel File Manager. All the files appear in the single folder with backslashes in the file name. They are not being extracted into the correct folder.

When I extract the ZIP this same file on a folder on my PC the folders are created and then I zip them up again and when I upload them this time the files appear in the correct folder and everything works as expected.

I have tried looking for settings but nothing seems to work. Can you let me know what I have to do so the ZIP file downloaded from Simply Static on Xampp can upload directly and extract OK using cpanel.

    Thanks

The issue may be caused by going from a Windows environment with XAMPP to a Linux environment directly. The two environments typically use slashes differently. In Simply Static you could try changing your Settings delivery method from “ZIP Archive” to “Local Directory”. Let Simply Static export the site into a folder on your PC, then create a ZIP from that folder using Windows Explorer or a tool like 7-Zip. Upload that ZIP to cPanel and extract it.

Alternatively, you could keep using the ZIP from Simply Static generated in XAMPP, but extract it locally on your PC and upload the extracted files to the demo server via FTP instead of using the “Extract” function in cPanel.
