  • Oh, and yes, that ‘workaround’ code goes in the functions.php (hopefully into your child theme version though)…

Thanks, angelo, that workaround did the trick 🙂

After reading your success with TablePress 1.6.1 and Events Manager 5.6 on wp 4.3, and I agree TablePress is a pretty popular plugin, I decided to give it another go too…

I ‘Deactivated’ Events Manager, then installed and ‘Activated’ TablePress 1.6.1 and tested which was a success, so I then ‘Deleted’ (NOT uninstalled) the ‘Deactivated’ Events Manager 5.6 before I then re-installed and ‘Activated’ Events Manager 5.6 again and tested which was also a success this time 🙂

As for exporting my TablePress settings, there’s nothing to export as I had not got around to using it, I had it installed ready in preparation for later use for an as yet to be developed section of the site.

I’m guessing that as I had TablePress installed since wp version 4.2.1 and have since updated to wp 4.3 that maybe something didn’t pass over correctly during the various wp/plugin updates, and I was installing Events Manager 5.6 for the first time in 4.3, so by doing a fresh install of both plugins seems to have been the trick.

Also, I received ‘no’ PHP errors this time around 🙂

On a side note.. I tried changing, as you suggested, the dbem_version to 5 and saved the settings, but after going back to wp options to check the version was back to reading 5.6… I tried this several times, with different versions (5.5, 5.4, etc) but couldn’t get it to stay changed?

Anyways, thank you again Marcus for your support and speedy responses, I’ll keep monitoring both plugins and update if anything else comes up.

    Hey Guys,

First up, apologies for the long post, however…

GOOD NEWS (for me at least and hopefully for you and others too)!

So this is what I discovered, for myself at least, it was a ‘plugin conflict’ with the offending plugin being the following:

    > TablePress – Version 1.6.1 | By Tobias Bäthge

Here’s my PHP error log after selecting ‘Activate’ for the Events Manager plugin with the TablePress plugin already activated (which results in the wsod):

    Aug 21, 15:19:06
    WordPress database error Unknown column ‘event_notes’ in ‘wp_em_events’ for query ALTER TABLE wp_em_events CHANGE event_notes post_content longtext NULL DEFAULT NULL made by require_once(‘wp-load.php’), require_once(‘wp-config.php’), require_once(‘wp-settings.php’), do_action(‘init’), call_user_func_array, em_init, em_install, em_create_events_table

    Aug 21, 15:19:07

So, after deactivating the ‘Events Manager’ plugin by renaming its folder via FTP, I then ‘Deactivated’ the TablePress plugin and again ‘Activated’ the Events Manager plugin (after renaming its plugin folder back to normal via FTP) with a SUCCESSFUL result this time and a working Events Manager plugin and NO wsod 🙂 plus only the following errors are now being reported in my PHP error log for the Events Manager plugin:

    Aug 21, 15:08:34
    WordPress database error Unknown column ‘event_notes’ in ‘wp_em_events’ for query ALTER TABLE wp_em_events CHANGE event_notes post_content longtext NULL DEFAULT NULL made by require_once(‘wp-admin/admin.php’), require_once(‘wp-load.php’), require_once(‘wp-config.php’), require_once(‘wp-settings.php’), do_action(‘init’), call_user_func_array, em_init, em_install, em_create_events_table

    WordPress database error Unknown column ‘location_description’ in ‘wp_em_locations’ for query ALTER TABLE wp_em_locations CHANGE location_description post_content longtext NULL DEFAULT NULL made by require_once(‘wp-admin/admin.php’), require_once(‘wp-load.php’), require_once(‘wp-config.php’), require_once(‘wp-settings.php’), do_action(‘init’), call_user_func_array, em_init, em_install, em_create_locations_table

Hoping these errors are nothing to worry about for now?

Needless to say I have ‘Deleted’ the offending TablePress plugin and so far so good with Events Manager 🙂

Thank you, Marcus, for helping to point me in the right directions and for your outstanding response times/assistance with the FREE version of your plugin, I can tell you now I’ll be purchasing the PRO version and look forward to using a great plugin.

I’m also experiencing the same issue, I installed the free Event Manager 5.6 version and as soon as I select ‘Activate’ the page goes blank (white) and I loose access to the entire Admin Dashboard requiring the use of FTP to rename the plugin folder to get the plugin Deactivated and Admin Dashboard access restored.

I have noticed the Frontend of my site remains working and I have also noticed (after Admin Dashboard access is restored) multiple ‘Event’ and ‘Registration’ pages have been created, caused perhaps from my refreshing of the blank page I’m shown after selecting ‘Activate’?

I do not believe it to be a PHP memory issue as I have 256MB allocated, but just in case I increased the memory allocation temporarily for testing purposes to 512MB which made no difference at all!

I’m thinking it may be a plugin conflict, but as I have a number of them I am not sure which may be the culprit? I did previously have WP Events Plus 1.4.2 plugin installed and activated, but I never actually used it and have since deactivated and deleted it.
