  • Hello, siritinga, & welcome. Firstly, you’ve done an incredible job of troubleshooting thus far. Congratulations! Maybe when we’re done here, you’ll consider joining the volunteers on the forum to help others who are experiencing difficulties?

There are some things you haven’t told us, & they’re important for us to know. Is your friend hosting on Windows or Linux? I’m assuming Linux, because you speak of a .htaccess file, but well, when you assume you do things that are decidedly unhelpful :). Next, what sort of hosting are you using, ie, shared, VPS, or dedicated? The answer to that question will let us know whether & what sort of logs might be available for viewing in order to sort this out. Lastly, has this website stopped working or was it recently installed?

Great support, right–all questions, no answers–but the answers will help us to formulate some suggestions to help.

@shahidz, this is why I requested you start your own topic. It would appear the problems you & lobonomade are having are very different. Specifically, it appears that lobonomade’s site is compromised, while it looks like your domain may be parked. If it is, then the domain needs to be removed from parked status prior to being used. Please start your own topic, though you can post a link to it here.

Folks, if indeed your sites have been hacked, then the criminals may be preventing you from logging in.

@shahidz, if you’re having problems you should really start your own topic, though feel free to post a link to it here so others can have a look.

Hello, lobonomade, & welcome. What is your site about? Do you recognize the following?
“WITH CRAZY SHOP OF WHOLESALE JERSEYS FROM CHINA, VARY IN NFL/NBA/NHL/MLB/NCAA. LOW PRICE CHINESE WHOLESALE JERSEYS FOR CHEAP SALE. UP TO 69% OFF DISCOUNT FOOTBALL JERSEYS FOR YOU. AND BASKETBALL WHOLESALE NBA JERSEYS IN THROWBACK FREE SHIPPING. AMERICAN CHEAP SOCCER JERSEYS FOR ENTERTAINMENT AND TRAINING. WHOLESALE FOOTBALL JERSEYS ONLINE ALL CHEAP NFL JERSEYS PLAYERS ON FIELD. NOW BUY WHOLESALE JERSEYS FOR SAVING MORE.”

If not, then I suspect your site has been compromised/hacked. I’m really sorry if that’s the case. Please let us know if that content does not represent your site so we can provide instructions regarding cleaning it up.

    Hello, dejana14, & welcome.

Part of the problem is that your url’s were not changed properly as in the following:
    http://localhost:8888/wordpress/shop/

That’s clearly incorrect. I’d recommend a tool like:
    https://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/
where you can search through the database & make changes from the local install url to the serverside one.

Another thing that might help w/this is the duplicator plugin:
    https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/duplicator/
Just install it on your local machine, delete the previous server install, & start over.

Once you’ve done the search & replace, go into ‘Settings > Permalinks’, choose your structure, & save your settings. If you still have questions, please don’t hesitate to come back here & ask.

Glad it was that simple, Stefano. Thank you for your very kind words. If you would, please mark this topic as ‘resolved’ so the volunteers know you’ve been helped & can go on to help others. Thanks for that. I wish you a blessed holiday season & all success w/your website. Make your passwords tankproof, update your site frequently, delete unused plugins/themes, find substitute plugins &/or themes for those you’re using but are no longer maintained, & you should be good to go for a long time. Don’t hesitate to come back here, though, if something else trips you up.

Hello, Stefano, & welcome. Are you perchance using wpml? If yes, please make certain you have the latest version of that plugin, as this is a known issue.

Hello, @amymartinmedia. The domain is available for purchase, & if you want it, I’d get it ASAP.

The question is pretty much moot now because all your previous files, including your database, are now gone & have been for quite a while, it would appear. I’m sorry.

Hello, Gianluca, & welcome. I viewed the source of your site, & it appears your WordPress version is indeed 4.9.1, which is the latest & greatest, at least for now :).

There are several ways to troubleshoot website problems. Sometimes, in your hosting provider’s control panel, there is an aplet called ‘Error Logs’ which will allow you to view any errors your site might be throwing. Also, your web folder, as well as plugins & theme subfolders, might contain a file called error_log or error.log. If these contain recent entries, they may also be able to help determine if the site is having difficulties, as well as what those problems are. You can feel free to post your log here, or there is an Italian support forum located at:

    Support Forums

where folks might be better able to translate any error log entries you may have.

Please enclose entries in as in:

    line 1
    line 2
    line 3

Additionally, sometimes changing the wp_debug constant in your wp-config.php file to ‘true’ & then logging into your site can display errors your website might be experiencing. This is a security risk, so please change it back to ‘false’ once you’ve gotten the information you need. Again, you may wish to post those messages as above.

Hopefully this will prove of some assistance in troubleshooting this for you.

There is something interfering w/your ability to log in via wp-admin. I would expect to see the following in most login situations:
    https://expressivestyles.salon/wp-login.php?redirect_to=https://expressivestyles.salon/wp-admin/&reauth=1

Again, I rather suspect you’ve got some sort of security plugin in play here.

Hi, cbirdsong, & welcome. First, thanks for providing your site’s url. In this case, it *really* helped a lot. Several things are occurring. you’ve got a captcha-generating plugin in place, &, in truth, I suspect it may be blocking access to /wp-admin, ie, I think it does more than just generate captchas & is likely some sort of overall security plugin. You can log into your dashboard, it appears, by going to:
    https://expressivestyles.salon/wp-login.php
Please let us know if this is indeed accurate.

When updating, there is always the possibility that the update didn’t actually complete successfully. In such cases, we generally urge that folks reupload the files manually, either via their hosting provider’s control panel or an ftp client, but, if you’re actually able to log in, as I suspect, that may not be the issue.

Sometimes temporarily disabling plugins & returning to a default theme (they all begin with the word ‘twenty’) an help, &, if so, then reenable things 1 by 1 & try logging in each time until things quit working, at which point you’ll know what the problematic element is.

I’m also wondering if your theme is up-to-date? I’m seeing a lot of references to v. 6.3x on the site, but the most updated version appears to be 6.4.

Please let us know if any of this was helpful.

Well, I hope you’ll at least find a way to let me know when you’ve got your blog up so I can look at it. I always like being able to go to the websites of those I’ve assisted to see what they’re up to.

Meanwhile, it’s amazing how updating can solve so many issues. I’m glad this is resolved now. Please do let us know if there’s anything more we can do to help. I have enjoyed working w/you a lot. You were always polite & cooperative, as well as clearly being interested in learning more about WordPress.

Not usually. Given the risk of screwing up the database & breaking the site vs. the risk of some unused tables causing trouble, I’d say the 2nd is less risky anytime.

If the plugins have their own tables, you could go in & delete them using something like PhpMyAdmin or an optimizer plugin, but these things tend to be pretty insignificant in most cases.

    Hello, tombbb, & welcome.

Are you logged in as another user, or is someone else logged in w/an admin account? Are you running caching on your site? What sort of hosting do you use, ie, shared, VPN, or dedicated? The answers might help us.

@sariee, can you tell us if this is this a single or a multisite installation?
