In reply to: Broken editorAbe, can we see your .htaccess file, please? Enclose it in
ie,line 1 line 2 line32nd, please open your wp-config.php file & change wp_debug to ‘true’. Then log into your site & copy-&-paste any errors reported. This is obviously a serious security risk, so please change it back immediately after you’re done.
Lastly please check your hosting provider’s control panel & see if there is an aplet for displaying error logs. Conversely, if not, please ask your host if your site is throwing errors of which they can send you a copy.

In reply to: Broken editorHello, Abe, & welcome. First, could you please provide a site url?
I’m impressed w/your troubleshooting efforts thus far, in case it makes any difference. Is your hosting provider using any caching, ie, Varnish, Cloudflare, etc. Also, is your site using a caching plugin such as W3Cache, etc?

In reply to: [Ghazale] Home page not foundJIGSAW, please let us see your .htaccess file. Also, please go to Settings > General in your site’s dashboard & report to us your site & WordPress url’s.
If you have any questions on how to do these, please ask.
Your homepage is actually redirecting to a .html url, which of course is incorrect. It may be a misconfiguration on your hosting provider’s part, but let’s have a look at the .htaccess file. You can find it either in your hosting provider’s control panel or via an FTP client. It’s a hidden file, so make sure that the option to view hidden files is checked in either your hosting provider’s file manager or your ftp client.

In reply to: Home page not foundJIGSAW, I don’t mean to torque you off further, but please start your own topic. You can post a link here if you wish. This is a resolved topic, which means no one’s likely to look at it except in cases like mine where I forgot to unsubscribe from it. Please also provide your site url & tell us if this is a single or multisite installation. I’m not sure how much I’ll personally be able to help as I recently broke my wrist, & using the computer is slow & painful, but at least someone is more likely to see your request for help.

In reply to: Error 404 Private page when I am loggedHello again Berriban. Likely the easiest way to do this is w/a membership plugin. You can go to ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins & search for that. You may need to try more than 1 to see which best meets your needs. If you install plugins but later decide you don’t need them, please delete them, not just deactivate them, as this can help make your site more secure.
If you feel your topic has been resolved, please mark it as such so that the forum volunteers will know your difficulty has reached a satisfactory conclusion & we can go on to help others. If you still have questions, however, please don’t hesitate to ask. We’ll do what we can. Thanks.

In reply to: Customise page under appearance not loading correctlyLaura, thanks for the site url. Normally I’d say in a situation like this to go to the theme authors for support, but since you’re using a default theme, we can actually continue to try to help.
Please open your wp-config.php file, either via an FTP client like Filezilla or your hosting provider’s control panel. Then, please change wp_debug from ‘false’ to ‘true’. At that point, try to load the customizer on your site using Safari & your IPad. If you see any errors/warnings, please copy them to your next reply. This is a serious security risk, so once you’re finished, change it back posthaste.
To be honest, a screenshot likely wouldn’t help, at least not me. You’re too young, I’m sure, to remember a song called “Alice’s Restaurant” by Arlo Guthrie. Anyway, some folks got arrested for trespassing, the police arrived in the courtroom with 26 photos as evidence, & the judge walked in w/a guide dog lol. It’s a pretty funny song if you ever want to google it up sometime. At any rate, I guess I’m like the judge, & I won’t be seeing the screenshot even if you could post it lolol. But we’ll figure this out, or at least we’ll give it a good go. What version of the IPad are you using? That might prove important.
Happy backpacking!

In reply to: Please Help! My website is missing :(Hello, wssoo2, & welcome. First, might I suggest you start your own topic. This is a resolved topic, & it’s therefore unlikely to be seen. The only reason I did was because I forgot to unsubscribe from it.
2nd, I would say this is not a WordPress problem if you’re having trouble w/ftp as well. I was actually able to view your site’s homepage, but no other pages. My first thought is that you discuss this w/your hosting provider. My 2nd thought is that you might wish to try renaming your plugins folder by putting a 1 or a .old at the end, like plugins1 or plugins.old. Very likely you can do this via your hosting control panel. I’m also concerned that you’re not using a default theme, & you can simply rename the theme folder as in my above reply, w/the warning that it will break your site until you’re able to change it to something different.
Please start a new topic if your hosting provider can’t help, & you can feel free to post a link to it here if you wish.

In reply to: Customise page under appearance not loading correctlyLaura, you can rename your plugins folder either by going into your hosting provider’s file manager, usually in your control panel, or via an ftp client such as FileZilla. Alternatively, you could just go into your dashboard & deactivate all plugins. Could you please provide us a site url?
This does sound like some sort of Javascript conflict, but it’s hard to know at this juncture w/o a site address.
Helping “nontechies” is what we’re good at–just keep asking if you’re stuck. BTW, the text looks as it should–my initial impression prior to coffee was to say “there’s nothing wrong here”, but then I thought about what you had said & understood the buttons weren’t working. I think I’ll go remedy the coffee situation now to defog brain so as to hopefully be more coherent when you reply back. Please note I’m in caregiver mode at this point, so my responses may be a bit slow. Others here are as capable or more so than me of helping, & they might if my responses are too delayed–or they just might pop in w/another idea. But I will try to monitor the situation throughout the day as caregiving permits.

In reply to: Error 404 Private page when I am loggedHello, berriban, & welcome. W/all due respect, I think you’re possibly misunderstanding the ramifications of making a private page. Here’s a link to explain it all.
https://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Content_VisibilityBasically, editors & admins can see private pages as long as they’re logged in under an editor or admin account. If they’re logged in as a standard user, (even if they’re the same person), they won’t see the private page.
HTH.

In reply to: Customise page under appearance not loading correctlyHello, Laura, & welcome. Please switch to a default theme like twentyseventeen & also disable plugins by renaming your plugins folder by putting a 1 or a .old at the end, i.e., plugins1 or plugins.old. Truthfully, you can call it anything–that’s just a suggestion–but it’s fairly standard here on the forums.
If that does not help, then please open your wp-config.php file & change wp_debug from ‘false’ to ‘true’ & try loading the customizer again. This is a security risk, so once you’re done copying-&-pasting the errors to your reply, please change it back immediately.
We have other things to try, but let’s see where this takes us.

In reply to: Permalinks IssueHello again, RDC4. Let’s try a couple things, if we could. First, please change your theme to a default theme (they begin with the word twenty) & see if you can upload a .htaccess file & make the site work. If not, & w/the default theme still in place, please disable your plugins. You can do that by renaming your plugins folder by adding a 1 or a .old to the end of the plugins folder name, either via your hosting provider’s control panel or an FTP (preferably secure FTP) client like Filezilla. Again, see if your site works w/a .htaccess file.
If not, then please ask your hosting provider if they have mod_security enabled & if they’re seeing any errors that are being triggered by your site. Also, some hosting control panels permit viewing of your site’s error logs. You may wish to go into your control panel & see if this is the case w/yours. Additionally, sometimes there are files, called error.log or error_log, that may be present in the folder where you installed WordPress. If that is the case, feel free to post errors that correspond to the dates that this is occurring.
Please llet us know if you have questions regarding how to perform any of these steps. We’re happy to help.
