ah figured it out, thinkupslider has to be selected, however, now that I added a slider image, it is much too big and stretched.
Is there a way to make the slider smaller or to create images in the proper size for the slider.

I have the same problem, and I went to the Dashboard – Appearance – theme options page and found nowhere to edit the slider except to change the slider from the default, ThinkUpSlider, to ‘Custom Slider/Disable’. There is also a mysterious (to me) field for ‘shortcode’ “Homepage Slider Shortcode
Input the shortcode of the slider you want to display. I.e. [shortcode_name].”
Basically – I have no idea how to create a slider
