Curious, since you have a dedicated server.
Have you tried the “High Speed Small File Processing” setting under the “Configure Advanced Settings” section? (Manage Imports > Import Settings).
In there you can also check the “Increase speed by disabling do_action calls in wp_insert_post during import”.
