How many posts do you have on your blog?
Do you have installed a plugin what generates the sitemap? Without any sitemap, the plugin doesn’t works.
We recommend using “Better WordPress Google XML Sitemap” as mentioned in the description.
We can’t confirm any of your described issues.
Since the release, the plugin has been updated a few times. Maybe you should give a try.

the plugin has received some improvements last month. Some issues were fixed like some timeouts with bigger blogs, like over 1000 posts.
Please check out the newest version.
