I’m happy as actually: it works 🙂

But i’m experiencing very strange issues:

-i created the second blog: it’s not listed in the network admin
-plugins don’t seem to work on the second blog…

I will not pollute this thread with new issues as I know that “multisite is possible on ‘real’ subdomains with no wildcard subs”.

Ipstenu thanks again, I now understand more things not only about WP but about hostings and servers as well 🙂

wildcard subs are not allowed by my hoster, i already tried, it just returns a “wrong subdomain name entered”.

I just created a subdomain as my main domain’s alias, hope it will do the trick as it is meant to point to the same directory keeping the url as http://myothersub.mydomain.com … For now i wait for dns servers to update…

As i said i already created a subdomain using the cr*ppy user’s interface my hoster provides (this is the only way i know to create a subdomain: enter it’s name in abox and clicking on a ‘go’ button), the subdomain exists but by default it points to root_folder_of_my_hosting/subdomains/my_sub_domain/httpdocs/ but i’d like / I need (as you said) it to point to root_folder_of_my_hosting/httpdocs/ which is my main www folder.

I understand that the trick must be simple, that my shared hosting’s options don’t allow me directly to do the modifications and that the ‘techs’ answering my phone calls just don’t really know themselves what they should do.

I begin to feel that what would save me is that finally somebody qualified would answer my call at my hoster’s support desk 😉

Anyway Ipstenu, I’m grateful for your time, advice and interest 🙂

Ipstenu thank you for your time and advice :), thanks to it i get that:

    – the DNS part is ok and i have nothing more to do with it(and i have read a bit more about it to deepen my knowlegde)

    – the .htaccess part will come only in last place and wp will do the job (as I now installed the network enabling SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL my .htaccess seems to be ready)

But, I still don’t understand the ‘Subdomain Mapping’ part: I guess I cannot do it myself using a shared hosting, I guess it’s about modifying the <VirtualHost> config? Where could it be done?

I called my hoster, I think the ‘tech’ I had on telephone was as noob as I am as he told me I need a .htaccess redirection ><

    Snif I’m lost :'(

    let’s multipost!
I feel like i’m about to do it but i still have to understand some details; here is a part of my DNS settings:

    Type___Host_________________destination
    A______www.mydomain.com_____XXX.XXX.myIP.XXX
    A______mysub.mydomain.com___XXX.same.IP.XXX

I guess i can just “point” using the .htaccess located in the folder of my www?

as i’m asking this => i’ll try it right now! :p

    Fine 🙂

By default the subdomain i created points to /subdomains/mysub/httpdocs/, I asked my provider to make it point to /httpdocs/ where the www files are located.

I thank you for your clear advice as even if i already spent few hours crawling and reading forums, You just made me understand that a wp multisite network uses only one wp install.

I hope to come back in few hours claiming success 🙂 thanks again

Thank you for your answers, I’m happy to read you Ipstenu as i feel now it is possible, even if I would need to some clarification about what you mean by “to point”: would it the config of MX and cname?

If i point my sub.mydomain.com to the folder where the main site is installed I understand that only one install is required and it’s wordpress who does the job?

I do not 100% get the trick but it actually works great 🙂

I have so much more to learn about WordPress functions!

Let me thank you a hundred times Alchymyth, you saved my day 🙂
