Hello! We think that we have figured out at least part of what is happening. After many support conversations and a bit of sluething, this is what we have found out:
- Essential Blocks support was eventually able to preview the API version errors we were getting and forwarded it to their developers to fix.
- The Gutenberg plugin was what was causing the ‘this block has encountered an error’ and for us to not be able to edit sections in our site. It was news to us that the Gutenberg plugin should not be activated and that it is not needed for EB or Otter Blocks to work. Once we deactivated it, the errors went away and we could access our site sections again. We did end up deactivating and reactivating our plugins one by one, but because of the order we did it in, we didn’t catch that the Gutenberg plugin was causing the issue.
- There was another conflict between MegaMenu and WP Rocket. In the past, when we had menu issues, clearing several of the caches through WP Rocket fixed it. However, due to all of the errors and other problems, anytime we cleared cache, it started breaking the menu instead of fixing it. We are currently looking for a replacement menu solution.
I’m glad we were able to sort it out! I’m a big fan of Otter Blocks and most of our site is built with them.
Thank you for your assistance!
Hello again! I reached out to WordPress support (https://wpdeveloper.com/support/new-ticket/). We gave them access to our website so they could try to diagnose the issue with Otter Blocks and Essential Blocks. They determined that it was an issue with the plugins.
We were able to get a staging site and when we deactivate Otter Blocks, the problem is solved. When we go to add an Otter Block pattern, all of the patterns are empty. Can you please assist us with getting this fixed? We need to be able to edit our website.
Best,
Amy
Hello again! As you suggested, I reached out to support (https://wpdeveloper.com/support/new-ticket/). They were able to log into our site and determined that there was an issue with Essential Blocks and Otter Blocks and I should talk to you about getting it fixed.
What is the next step for resolving this? We need to be able to edit in our website.
Amy
Thank you for the assistance! Will I be hearing back from you or the DEV team for further information or an ETA for getting it fixed? Just trying to get an idea of when the blocks will be editable again.
Best,
Amy
Hi! Almost all of the pages are affected, I will list some of the urls that are having the block issues on the back end. I’ll also add corresponding screenshots of what i’m seeing on each of the pages to the folder that I have alreay linked.

/community-cats/Hi! If I do that, will it temporarily remove anything from the website or cause any of the features not to work? We do fundraising and our site can’t be down at all. Same with changing the theme. I’m not comfortable with that. We are currently use using the assembler blocks and not an actual theme. I am not technical. If something happens to the site I have no idea how to fix it.
This is also the older thread. I posted a new question with more information yesterday.
I also discovered it is not just the otter blocks (although the vast majority of the broken sections are otter blocks). There are error messages for everything in the site. Please see images:

EB is using the newest version as is WordPress.
Here are some of the errors I am getting. The errors are for all of the blocks, including for blocks that I am not even using. I am also getting the same API version 2/iframe error with Otter Blocks.
It sounds like the blocks are using a depricated API version.
Thank you so much for your asisstance!
Best,
Amy
When I go to the site settings (Settings>performance) there is not a box with that label. There is a Jetpack Search section, CDN section, Performance and Speed section, and a Media section. There is an ‘optimize JS and CSS for faster page load and render in the browser’ link, but I get a ‘sorry you are not allowed to access this page’ screen.
If I go to Jetpack>Boost, there is a Concatenate CSS section with an ‘exclude CSS strings’ link and also a Concatenate JD section with ‘exclude JS Strings’ link.
If I go to Site-logs/tenthlifecats.org/php there are PHP warnings for ‘Undefined variable $ in /srv/htdocs/wp-content/plugins/eventon-lite/includes/eventon-core-functions.php on line 745’
I disabled Page Optimize and that actually made it worse. When a page loads, there is now a flicker at the top of the page that briefly shows the page without the styles applied. The accessibility check and Yoast SEO Premium aren’t working either.
I don’t believe I have a plugin specifically for clearing cache. I am building this site as a volunteer for a local rescue and I am not technical. I’m not sure if it matters, but I’m also having an issue with Yost SEO Premium. Here is what I have:
Accessibility Checker
Akismet Anti-Spam
CoBlocks
CookieYES
Counters Block
Essential Blocks
EventON Lite
GA Google Analytics
Gutenberg
Jetpack
Layout Grid
Max Mega Menu
My Sticky Bar
Otter
Page Optimize
Poptin
Yoast SEO
Yoast PremiumThank you so much for your help!
