When I was first setting up the CPT, the /training slug was occupied so it wouldn’t let me create it. So I went to the old page that I was using and changed it to the training-old. Not sure why the redirect happened, as I don’t think I have any settings to do that automatically.
It does sound like you want to be able to make use of probably Elementor to add extra content around things, but that also sounds like what you were doing previously. EXCEPT, it sounds like previously they were all just pages and child pages, as opposed to a post type. Now it’s desired to have a mix of both?
This is 100% spot on! I’m interested in migrating away from the old Parent structure and just using custom post types to make my trainings now.
Right now, it’s technically workable with the redirect, but it’s kind of sloppy. So I’d like to be able to use that /trainings URL for this ‘parent page’. Should that be possible, or does using CPT require that URL to stay available, or be used as a simple archive?
