The sending e-mail had to be an existing one like [email protected] – not [email protected]
I had to change it on several webpages, not on all!

after I updated WordPress to 4.6 my already working Contact Form 7 (for several weeks) now stopped to send e-mails to me.

I switched to PHP 7, but that doesn’t change it.

Similar problem for me! After I installed “Add Meta Tags”-plugin my already working Custom Contact Forms would work.
Installed “WP Meta Tags“ and switched “Add Meta Tags” off.
Custom Contact Forms works!
