I see where you’re coming from. Right now WordPress relies heavily on Gravatar, which isn’t ideal for performance or flexibility. If you only want a custom avatar for your admin profile, a lightweight approach is to use something like a local avatar plugin but set it just for your user.
That said, I agree this would be a great core feature a native “upload profile image” option directly in WordPress. It would save external calls, improve site speed, and give more control over branding.
