In reply to: Wildcard Subdomains redirect. Thanks for the help. all up and running. Just to confirm if you are using WebSitePanel that you need a dedicated IP address for it to all work.
With the IP, the install and adding of subdomains all worked as per the WordPress instructions.
Thanks again

In reply to: Wildcard Subdomains redirect. Thanks Ipstenu.
I think I have found the issue. I am using WebSitePanel, which since V2.0 or so does not allow wildcard subdomains without a dedicated IP.
It is not enough to have the wildcard * in the DNS settings. It needs a dedicated IP address to bind the DNS settings and this is not available in WebsitePanel without the IP.
(as far as I can tell anyway)
I shall report back later with my findings as I have not tested it yet.
I was told by my hosting company that my package had wildcards setup.Forum: Networking WordPress
In reply to: Wildcard Subdomains redirect.I have reinstalled WordPress and the wildcard subdomains are working and all the DNS settings are correct.
The network is created ok and I can see all the network admin menu’s and can create a subdomain site and it appears in the dashboard ok.
When I go to the subdomain dashboard I get a 404 error and when I go to visit the subdomain site I get the standard “this site is under construction page.”
I have used the web configs from these posts and still no joy.

In reply to: Wildcard Subdomains redirect. Thanks Ipstenu.
I have tried everything and still cannot get Multisite to work. The TLD is fine but none of the subdomains work.
I even set up a new test domain and a new install on the same host so its all together but it still doesn’t work.
I have noticed that the server is running on IIS and I have no htaccess file.
Could this be the problem?

In reply to: Wildcard Subdomains redirect. Thanks for the help.
Does this need to be an A record in the DNS settings? or do I add a wildcard domain to the subdomains in WebSitePanel?
Many thanks for your time
