In reply to: Images with same thumbnail size in GalleryThanks yuurrific, as James wrote, “[the Gallery block] will increase the width of the last images to make the gallery itself a uniform rectangle,” regardless the size.

In reply to: Images with same thumbnail size in GalleryI trust your judgment and if you don’t have a solution to the bottom-row issue I’ll just live with it.
Thanks again for your time.

In reply to: Images with same thumbnail size in GalleryI have the “Crop images to fit” setting always selected and it does not square the images (see 6); it makes them rectangular (7).
Then I use the Crop button (plus Aspect Ratio 1:1) in the Image menu and I manage to square them, but it acts randomly as I described and at best gives me the result shown in screenshot 5. So the issue now is how to crop a bottom row with less than four images.

In reply to: Images with same thumbnail size in GalleryHi James, here’s my update:
– I somehow managed to square crop the top row, but this happened only after two, or even three, unsuccessful tries on single images (see attachments 1, 2); suddenly, on a further try, all four images got squared (see 3)
– this happens both in Local (WordPress/2025, no Elementor) and WordPress Playground (also 2025 Theme)
– then I tried to crop/square the second row in WP Playground; nothing happened but the following messages appeared (see 4).
In case you cannot read them, the top one says: “Updating failed.”
The bottom one goes: “Could not edit image. Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress. Please check that the mysqli PHP extension is installed and enabled. If you are unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress support forums.” – I must shamefully admit that most of it eludes me.
– in Local, I managed to square the second row; in the third one, with two images, the result is as in attch 5. If I add two more images the whole row snaps into position.
– it all seems very random to me, but I trust you can figure things out.

In reply to: Images with same thumbnail size in GalleryMy apologies if I have not been clear. As I said, I am trying to build a gallery on a Local site, using WordPress/Twenty twenty-five. I used Elementor for the online site I sent you a link from. The image-size issues in Gallery, however, are similar and exist in both cases.

In reply to: Images with same thumbnail size in GalleryI did try “Crop images,” switching from Original to Square 1:1; the square grid appears on the image but nothing changes when I click on Apply. Also, the gallery is arranged on 4 columns and if I add a 5th image under a row of 4, it will have a gigantic size that stretches across the page.
I am using Hello Elementor on the online site; WordPress on the Local site. Both are very frustrating, but thanks again for your time.

In reply to: Images with same thumbnail size in GalleryThanks for your reply, James. I am familiar with the documentation you suggested but found nothing to adjust the images in Gallery to a uniform thumbnail size. I am currently working on a Local site, but please have a look at a link from an online site where I have similar issues with the Hello Elementor theme. Things are much worse with Twenty Twenty-five.

In reply to: different URL on hoverThanks for you kind reply, thready. Unfortunately, “Regenerate CSS & Data” in the Elementor Tools menu had no effect. I will submit my query to the Elementor forum you suggested.
