That makes perfect sense. I had done what you suggested by unchecking the “Anyone can register” button and then when I went to look at our login page, there was no registration button there. But when I went back and rechecked the box, the registration option reappeared. So now it’s crystal.

Your explanation of the spam attempts is exactly why I have been looking into this. We have recently run into some problems with email incursions that have taken advantage of this vulnerability and I think it will help our security to just block it.

One last question, I think. Why are some user registrations showing up in the list with “None” as their role.

You have been an immense help with this. I greatly appreciate your patience. I have been at this for only about a year helping manage some of our features after our webmaster set everything up less than two years ago. So we’re both pretty green. These are basic features that it helps to have someone with experience be able to help us with. We could have spun our wheels forever and never thought to look at this, or been able to find the check box to change it.

    Many thanks

For some reason the URL text didn’t show:

Our login page must have been changed, because I don’t see a registration button there.
    Here’s the URL:

So what alternate route might the system be offering?

Well, that was simple enough. We did have that option checked. I’m still unclear how people register. We don’t have a form or place in the web pages for doing so. By what mechanism does it happen?

    Again–many thanks for your help.
