It looks like Jetpack’s WordPress “Like” module just doesn’t work with the “Image” post type. I added a standard post, and the module works fine with that. This is the case with both Isola and with Twenty-Fourteen.
I don’t see any error messages when looking at the debugger console in Firefox’s developer tools.
Oh, apparently a lot of those features available on WordPress-hosted blogs are offered via Jetpack.
