Could you tell me what modules you have enabled? I need a bit more info so that I can try to replicate the issue.

Hi there – thanks for the suggestion. That’s a good idea.
I plan to add support for missing plugins/ notifications but a setting might make it easier to manage, especially if it’s for a plugin that’s not used by many people.

The plugin uses the ‘mshots’ functionality, from WordPress.com, to automatically take screenshots of websites. This function is free for non-commercial use.
The images are stored on the wordpress.com servers and are not saved onto your own website. The images are cached for roughly 24 hours before being generated again.

Could you post a link to a screenshot of the problem? Showing what you see in the customizer, so I can see what bits are there (if any) and what bits aren’t.
I can’t replicate this so really need to see the problem to be able to work out what is happening.

Hi there – Sorry to hear you’re having problems. Unfortunately I can’t do anything to solve this.
My guess is the screenshotting service has a timeout so that it doesn’t have to tie up the servers waiting for the page to finish loading. Alternatively there could be an issue with saving the page since it uses so much Javascript.
However since I am using a third party service, that I have no control over, to take the screenshots I can’t change the timeout or how it handles javascript. As such I’m afraid there’s nothing I can do here.

I shall run some tests on my plugin and make sure it’s still working as it should.
Toolbelt is good because it’s more private, but the portfolio functionality is very simple so if you’re looking for more features it may not be suitable. I think the biggest difference is that Toolbelt includes a portfolio block so that you can add projects to custom pages.
If you’re happy using Jetpack then one option might be to use the Jetpack dev mode plugin, which disables the bits of jetpack that contact the WordPress.com servers (so doesn’t need xmlrpc), but allows you to use the parts that work without WordPress.com.

I don’t know what went wrong there. As long as the portfolio module is active it should display.
Did you manage to get it back? Converting the other way should allow you to use the Jetpack portfolios again until we can work out what has happened.

Does your blog have any content currently? I think the categories only display if they have content in them, but thinking about it that doesn’t make much sense for this plugin so I will change that.

I think for the time being you’re best off disabling the module, but I’d be interested to know why it’s happening. AFAIK the module only disables WordPress features, so unless the SpicePress theme is hooking into WordPress specific stuff it shouldn’t affect anything.
I’ve tested the theme on my personal site and nothing broke so presumably something else, or some theme setting I didn’t try, was at fault.

If you select the kebab menu in the editor (the 3 dots on the right next to the gear icon) then go down to the tools > block manager) option, does the slider block appear in there and is it enabled?
Do you have any other sliders installed? Maybe there’s a conflict somewhere.
Regarding the contact form, that might be a PHP mail thing but I don’t know much about that. I assume other WordPress emails work ok. Does anything get saved in your ‘feedback’ post type? They should show there in either the All or Spam sections.
Also – do you have any caching plugins installed? That could affect the submission process.

The plugin is a wrapper for the WordPress.com mshots functionality. I wrote about that here:
