I answered my own question up to a point but still not working.
I’ve done this:
I’ve set up a Gallery and have downloaded four images.
I can view the images in the Gallery editing screen.
I have set up a “Photo Album” page; this page uses the “Gallery” template.
I have placed a short code in the Photo Album page that looks like this [print_gllr id=42] (the “Photo Album” page permalink says the id is 42)
On the Photo Album page itself one image from the Gallery shows. Next to the image is a link that says “See Photo” that links to the Gallery itself.
I believe it should show the Gallery itself right on the Photo Album page.

VERY cool that you’ve seen the hide- out; my family left KS years ago altho I was back at the museum maybe 15 yrs ago;
the web site is a final project for my first XHTML class which I’m taking online at a local comm college; altho I’m retirement age it looks like I’ll be taking more classes and doing some work in this field; my son owns his own web design biz; I do like this stuff;
I’ve put a screen shot of my XHTML site so-far on my WP site in case you wanted to take a look;
