BOTH settings are selected (per your instructions) but I continue to receive notifications whenever I login to the site. I log in from one location only, so the notifications should not be generated.
My WordPress site is installed in a SUBDIRECTORY.
For example: public_html/wordpressMight this be the cause of the problem?
I have identical .htaccess files in the root and in the wordpress subdirectory. Would a specific modification of the Wordfence code resolve this?

Thanks. And thanks for the warning. In fact, I do want the entire site to be updated/restored.
UpdraftPlus has done an excellent job of backing up and restoring my localhost work. I’m glad I can continue to rely on it now that I’m (finally) publishing online.
BOTH settings are enabled per your advice above. There should be NO notifications when I login (I login only from one computer). BUT…Wordfence IS sending notification when I log in.
Please take another look at this conversation and tell me how to set options so I only receive notification/alert when someone tries to login as Admin from some other location or device.
Thanks

Thanks for the timely and very helpful reply.
I read an online ‘How to” article that suggested disabling the first option and enabling the second. The logic didn’t look right to me, but then, some aspects of some plugins are badly worded – so I thought it best to seek the answer “straight from the source.”
And that’s exactly what I received. =]
Thanks a lot, and thanks for the tip about keeping browser cookies enabled. Wordfence is a Godsend. Keep up the good (GREAT) work!

Pim contacted me very quickly, seeking to resolve the issue. But no resolution yet. Can you advise? I posted a Support issue as well.
I now have a handle on the db collation issue, but still need help with the fact that my Install.php file is not being named in the usual way. The filename contains the same long-string format as does the archive.zip file.
As a result, the Install file cannot be downloaded to my Windows Desktop (localhost) and I worry that the file contents might be altered in a way that makes it a factor in the problem I’m having.
Can you please address this?
ThanksCorey ==
I put up a basic web page with easy-to-understand information, complete with screen captures. Here’s the link:
A clear explanation of the problem
It’s a non-responsive html page, so you won’t be able to view it on handheld device. Please view on a desktop display.
Hostgator TechSupport just refers me back to “the plugin developer.”

DNutbourne,
My sincere thanks to you for following up as you did.
My child theme directory contains only two files: functions.php and styles.css. Per your instructions I inspected both, and BOTH contained LOTS of “white space” among the code (as in, more than a single blank text line). That’s my fault. The Divi theme relies heavily on CSS mods, so I’m forced to “thrash about” in there (oh, brother).
As someone new to WP, I had no idea the “white space” mattered…duh.
Per your much appreciated suggestion, I made sure that no more than a single blank line exists between lines of code (in both files) and that not even a line break exists outside the starting and ending characters. As a result, NO MORE WHITE SPACE WARNING when I fire up UpDraftPlus! Too good!
I so appreciate this(!) and I’ll bet your helpful advice will help resolve a couple of “mystery problems” I’ve been hanging around the necks of the poor Divi Support Forum reps. I much appreciate it. I hope many WP users read this thread and benefit by it as much as I have.
Thank you again,
TomThank you both for your replies. I don’t want to waste your time.
David: If you’re running Divi 3.0 and not experiencing problems, that sounds like a solid indication that no problem exists with Divi.
DNutbourne: No, I haven’t made any changes to Divi files. Just a few custom CSS mods in the child-theme style.css file.
Having disabled my plugins and still the warning remains, I’m not sure how to resolve this. If instructions suitable for “an artist building his own site” exist, please point me in that direction.
Sorry to address you guys as “Corey.” It was late, I was tired, I also use Duplicator (authored by Corey). Duh.
Thanks, bcworkz.
I appreciate Vladimir’s comments, and your clarification. I’m new to WP and not an ITguy. I’m on an extremely arduous learning curve, so the finer points of SEO will have to be tackled later, when I get my “second wind.” Ha.
Again, thanks for taking time to help.
As I research further, another question occurs to me. I need to be sure of the distinction between WordPress page TITLE and WordPress page NAME. Is the following accurate?
1. The wordpress page TITLE can use upper and lower case characters and punctuation, such as a question mark(?) or exclamation point(!). The TITLE appears in the search engine results.
2. The wordpress page NAME is actually the slug, and the slug consists of only lower case characters separated by hyphens(-) with NO punctuation. The NAME/slug serves as the file name and is the term by which the page is found by a search engine.
Confirmation of this would be much appreciated BEFORE I publish my site.
ThanksSpasibo, Vladimir.
I kept my examples brief and generic just to keep my question simple.
I am using Yoast SEO, but I find that adhering to SEO best practices makes for unnatural content in my particular type of site. I’m an artist and very opinionated, too (ha). SEO practices don’t work so well for me (so far) but I appreciate your remarks on the subject.
I am most concerned about naming my pages and posts in a way that will:
1) represent them well in Google search results, and
2) will not cause problems with permalinks or other issues beyond my current limited understanding. So will I *not* incur problems by naming pages and posts as follows?
What if I Could Solve All Your Problems?Would that page or post title be problem-free?
ThanksThanks for the reply, Cory ==
FWIW and FYI re. READ ONLY: Apparently the only way to remove Read Only from a folder in Win7 is via a DOS-style Command Prompt. Sheesh. I doubt anybody’s going to all that trouble when running your excellent plugin in Xampp.
You were right. Read Only *is* set ON for my Plugins folder, but I was not able to switch it off and ultimately learned “the awful truth” at this URL:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/cannot-change-read-only-file-attributes-using/b02b2254-cd4d-4e50-a68a-cae8c748d086Cory ==
Thanks for your very instructive remarks. The first sentence of your second paragraph omitted the operative word. It reads, “As far as the plugin itself not being [ ? ] this would have to do with permission issues on the plugins directory which is uncommon.” Please complete that thought.
Also, please note that my site is *not yet* on the Hostgator server; it’s still on my localhost Xampp virtual server. I take your point re. a possible Permissions issue with my the plugins directory in my Xampp environment, and I’m very glad to have the information, BUT…
I know how to check and modify Permissions via FTP, but am sketchy on how to do it on my own computer (Win7). Windows Explorer does not display settings like “755” etc. It provides a list with checkboxes. My \wp-content\plugins directory displays the following Permissions as *ALLOW* for *Authenticated Users* (I’m Administrator):
Modify
Read & Execute
List folder contents
Read
WriteDoes that sound like the permissions are too tight? I’ll want to double-check all this once the site is uploaded, so for future reference, please tell me now what Permission (755 or whatever) for the plugins directory *should* be.
I appreciate the help.
