In reply to: [PW WooCommerce Gift Cards] Automatic “completed” status for gift card ordersThe plugin can email the gift card before Completed if “Send when order received” is enabled. That’s on purpose: many stores treat Processing (payment received) as enough for a digital gift card, and some orders never get marked Completed. If you only want the email after Completed, turn that option off and use the default (or use Automatically complete orders for gift-card-only purchases so they go to Completed right after payment).
If “Automatically complete orders” (gift-card orders only) is enabled, the plugin tries to mark the order Completed after payment, but only when the order line items are all gift cards. If that order also had another product, autocomplete won’t run.
Also, for Bank transfer or Cash on delivery, the plugin intentionally does not auto-complete (so you can confirm payment first). Other gateways can behave differently depending on when WooCommerce fires “payment complete.”
How to see that a card was used (free version)
- WooCommerce → PW Gift Cards (Balances / gift card list): open the card and use activity (or equivalent) to see debits and balance.
- The order where it was applied (#3031) is where the gift card discount/payment shows—that’s the record of “used in this order.”

If you remove %0D and %0A from the URL, and the PDF is successfully rendered, it may be the host blocking the values in the parameters. You can contact your website host and see why they are blocking the %0D and %0A parameters from a server-level and see if they can allow it. This is a specific configuration for the server that your site uses.
We can provide snippet as a workaround if the host is unwilling to help.

When someone clicks “Redeem” in the email and lands on your site, the gift card is already applied to their session, so they don’t have to type the number again. Customers can also redeem multiple gift cards, they just enter each number and click Apply. Once applied, gift cards are shown in the cart totals (on the Cart page) and in the order review (on the Checkout page), with the card number, remaining balance, and a Remove link for each. So your clients can confirm their card is applied by looking at that totals section.

This is counter to how gift cards typically work at any retail outlet since it applies to the Total and it isn’t a store coupon affecting the Subtotal.

In reply to: [PW WooCommerce Gift Cards] Tax settings for gift cardsPW Gift Cards uses a normal WooCommerce product, so you use the same tax settings as for any other product:
- Edit the gift card product
Products → All Products → open your “Gift Card” (or whatever you named it). - Open the General tab
In the Product data panel, select the General tab. - Set tax like your other products
- Tax status: set to Taxable (not “None”).
- Tax class: choose the same class you use for your standard products (e.g. “Standard”, “Reduced rate”, or a custom class you use in Spain).
Those fields are the standard WooCommerce ones; we don’t add a separate “tax class for gift cards” — it’s the same product-level Tax status and Tax class as on any other product.If you don’t see Tax status / Tax class
- Make sure the product type is PW Gift Card (dropdown at the top of Product data).
- If you use the new block-based product editor: tax is usually under the product’s Pricing or General section; use “Taxable” and the same tax class as your other taxable products.
