The issue seems to have settled – at least for now, after doing a manual backup on the 1st of May. Since then, the 7 scheduled backups were done for https only – yay!
If the issue re-appears I will wipe and re-configure settings as instructed here.

After doing a manual backup, which was done for the https, the scheduled ones are also for https only – at least for the last couple of days. So I won’t (yet) wipe out the settings in the Advance Tools yet, which frankly I don’t feel comfortable doing for fear of not breaking something, but will need to try if backups start again being done for http.
