I ended up redoing the pages. I deleted the media & text blocks, and instead wrapped the text around the images. This produced the same effect and works fine. A friend who’s a professional WordPress developer told me it’s not unusual to have problems with the media & text block. Perhaps she was just being encouraging….

Thanks for responding. I’d tested disabling the plugins before I posted here, and tested again after you wrote. Both times the disabling had no impact.
But then I tested with the Twenty Twenty-One, Twenty-Two, and Twenty-Three Themes. With all three themes, none of the images in the media & text boxes appeared on the homepage, although all appeared on their respective pages. With GeneratePress, images for two of the three boxes have always appeared on the homepage.
Now I’m more confused than ever, especially being pretty new to WordPress. But I have to think the issue is with my media & text boxes, not with the theme.
