In reply to: [Make] Make theme menu not working on iPadHi Everyone,
I’m not sure how or whether this was resolved, but, as I recall, I traced this to a cookies issue with Safari. When I blocked all cookies on Safari (on my iPad or my laptop — they’re linked), I lost my Make menus on the iPad. So I think I had to change my cookie settings.
Try that out.
Best,
Bryan@cais – The problem has been solved. It had something to do with my server. Once I alerted them to all this, the support folks fixed it. I’m not sure what went wrong or what they did.
@cais – Not a thing that I’m aware of. It just happened. I didn’t install any new plug-ins. I can’t even be sure when it happened. Maybe an update, but I suspect not.
Another issue: my categories are gone. They still exist in practice. But they don’t show up on the front end or back end. My Categories page in WordPress (back end) tells me I have “39 items” but where the list of category names is supposed to appear, all I have is “No items found.” But my categories still work to sort posts. For example: http://bryanpfeiffer.com/2015/01/28/whats-this-no-23/
And when I go to my list of categories in the sidebar on the blog landing page, nothing drops down from the drop-down box: http://bryanpfeiffer.com/blog/
ONE MORE THING: Another WordPress user on my server is having the same CATEGORY issue. So perhaps this might be a server or database issue? I don’t think that other user uses NextGEN. (I’m using Pro.)
Thanks!

In reply to: [Make] Make theme menu not working on iPadI had – and solved – the same problem.
Oddly enough, this seemed to be a cookies issue on my iPad mini running Safari. I had no problems with the Make mobile dropdown on Chrome on my iPad. But once I allowed Safari on my iPad to accept some cookies (instead of “Always Block”), my Make menu problems vanished.
So try this: On your iPad go to Settings > Safari > Block Cookies and then try different blocking options OTHER THAN “Always Block”
When I select “Allow from Websites I Visit” it fixed my Make menu problems.

In reply to: [Make] Slider and Mobile Menu Unresponsive on iPadHi Scott,
Sorry about my belated reply. Wow. Thanks. Hmmm. It’s still the case on my iPad. I’ve tinkered with all the settings on my iPad for Safari. My three slider images show up in Safari stacked on top of one another. And when the menu reverts to a drop-down, it doesn’t work, dosn’t drop down. It’s all fine on Chrome on my iPad.
I’ll query other people with iPads or other gadgets.

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Can't Upgrade to JetPack 2.7Duh. Simply deleting the old, renamed jetpack directory did the trick. Thanks again, Jeremy! I’m a happy camper!

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Can't Upgrade to JetPack 2.7Oh, I guess my renaming the old plugin folder didn’t do the trick. So I’ll delete it now and see what happens.
But perhaps I’ll need to delete the newly installed Jetpack directory as well and then re-reinstall Jetpack again?
Also, yeah, I know my normal updates page. I figured maybe I could edit update-core.php to solve this problem. Guess not.
Okay, onward. I’ll try to reinstall the reinstall. Thanks again!

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Can't Upgrade to JetPack 2.7Aha, I see that the Plugin Updates page is:
http://bryanpfeiffer.com/wp-admin/update-core.php
So perhaps I can do something there?

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Can't Upgrade to JetPack 2.7Hi Jeremy,
I’m up and running Jetpack 2.7. But I have one minor problem leftover. I still have Jetpack 2.5 installed. And WordPress 3.8 is still telling me to upgrade it to 2.7. (And I’m still getting the notice that an upgrade “failed to complete.) I’m worried that if I delete Jetpack 2.5 that I’ll actually be deleting 2.7. It gave me the warning that I’d lose all my data if I proceeded to delete Jetpack 2.5.
By the way, before I FTP’d Jetpack 2.7 to my site, I simply renamed the old Jetpack folder in my wp/contents/plugins directory. It’s still there under a new name.

In reply to: Can't Upgrade to JetPack 2.7Hi Doug,
I did just get this by email:

I would suggest that you also update Jetpack manually, as explained here:

Rest assured, you won’t lose any data in the process: your stats and subscribers are stored on WordPress.com servers and associated to your site URL so they’ll be back under your account as soon as you reconnect Jetpack to WordPress.com.I’ll try it.

In reply to: Can't Update to 3.8 Update or any Plug-insOne other point …
During my update attempts, my blog sometimes doesn’t go into “maintenance mode.” Sometimes it does; sometimes it doesn’t.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Can't Update to 3.8 Update or any Plug-insIf anyone’s still reading this post, I’m still trying to avoid a manual update to WordPress 3.8. My problem seems to be with plug-in updates. I’ve been unable to update Jetpack or NEXTGen Photo Gallery.
BUT, I’ve just updated another plug-in automatically. It worked just fine. All the other updates seem to hang in the downloading stage. I’ve deactivated all my plug-ins and tried updating Jetpack, NEXTGen and WordPress (to 3.8). Nothing.
Might there be any work-arounds left to try? Thanks.

In reply to: Can't Update to 3.8 Update or any Plug-insMany thanks, Tara. Okay, I’ll give this a try (gulp!). I’m wondering about my Jetpack subscribers. I gather all that data is in /wp-content/. But just double-checking.
